Hangers Cleaners is a family-owned dry cleaner headquartered in Martin City, and regardless of how much they’ve expanded, they’ve always maintained their quirky company culture!
Having a beer with a co-worker inspired President Joe Runyan to start the business. They discussed how carbon dioxide is used in the beverage, which led Runyan to research and discover the chemical is also an eco-friendly dry cleaning method. In 2004, he left his corporate job at Sprint to start his own small business, Hangers Cleaners.
Almost 14 years later, Hangers Cleaners has a big following, offering free pick-up and delivery service to residences, employers, apartment communities, and schools, and offers walk-up services at 10 grocery store locations across Kansas City.
We are most impressed with the “Give Back” fundraising program they started for local schools and charities. Organizations take part by distributing flyers to members of their communities. When customers drop off their dry cleaning, they mention the name of the school or charity they want to support and Hangers will donate 10% of what they spend back to the organization. There are currently 24 participating organizations, and some receive $1,000 annually from the program! Contact Hangers Cleaners for more information if you’d like to participate in the program.
