KCMO Water Services held a public meeting on September 29th to discuss the water main replacement project on Blue Ridge Boulevard and Holmes Road. KCMO Water Services has hired Blue Nile Construction for the replacement of the water mains.  Blue Nile will be deploying three crews to work simultaneously on the water main replacement projects. Construction will commence on the first of October and the entire project should be completed by April 2015 (subject to no weather delays).

The locations of the water mains to be replaced are as follows:

  • Blue Ridge Boulevard between St. Andrews and Wornall
  • Holmes Road between 124th Street and 127th Street
  • Holmes Road from Blue Ridge Boulevard to the north side of 135th Street

It is anticipated the Contractor will work four days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to complete the project. All roads will be open in both directions, however, temporary road closures may be required from time to time with flaggers directing traffic.

Why does the City not fix the water main break at Wornall and 135th Street?
The Water Service Department has been out to evaluate the excessive water flow in the street at this intersection. The Department determined the problem is not a water main break. The problem resulted from a closed crossroad culvert under Wornall. The Public Works Department is currently saw cutting and peeling away some asphalt at the northwest corner to reopen the crossroad culvert. To ensure this work does not cause any damage to the underground lines running in this area, the crew will be working for a period of days. Once the culvert is open and the water drains properly under Wornall again, Public Works will come back out to patch the pot holes at the intersection.
