You know Jack Stack BBQ in Martin City, MO, for their delicious ribs and celebrated sauce. What you might not know is they serve their famous BBQ to the homeless each month at Hope Faith Ministries in Kansas City, MO. Hope Faith Ministries is a Christian ministry that works to meet the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the homeless population in Kansas City. Their goal is to help them move off the streets and into self-sufficiency.

Each month, one of the five Jack Stack locations take turns serving lunch at Hope Faith Ministries. Case Dorman, the president of Fiorella’s Jack Stack BBQ, says it is the perfect opportunity to carry out the restaurant’s mission to feed and care for the less fortunate in the community.

“This is who Jack Stack BBQ is and what we do at the core, so it made sense for us to combine the serving and giving together,” said Dorman. “We asked our team if they wanted to participate and it was a resounding ‘Yes!’”

Jack Stack Employees

According to Martin City Jack Stack BBQ Manager Jason Kim, the event is something the employees look forward to and they have no shortage of volunteers.

“Our employees believe in this cause, and they are here because they want to be. One came in on his vacation time, and others are here on their day off. That speaks volumes about what being here means to everyone,” said Kim.

Jack Stack employee Margaret Crite said she used to volunteer at Hope Faith several years ago. Once she started working at the restaurant, she was excited to come back and volunteer again.

Jack Stack Serving

Hope Faith Ministries does so much to help Kansas City’s homeless. Besides offering food, they provide clothes, showers, medical services, addiction treatment, temporary housing, and much more! They are also opening a thrift store in Overland Park, KS. Dorman believes Jack Stack’s work with the community is having an impact on the entire restaurant’s staff.

“When we opened our store in the Crossroads Arts District in 2000, I saw the challenges of homelessness and hunger in our city and I wanted to do our part to make an impact,” said Dorman. “My hope is for our volunteers to experience the joy of giving back and also share with others the needs within our own community.”
