Each year, thousands of people come to Martin City to attend a variety of events. But do you know who often takes the lead behind-the-scenes to bring them to life?
That responsibility rests on the shoulders of the Martin City Business and Community Association (MCBCA), created in 1998 before the Martin City CID existed. At that time, their primary goal was to raise awareness of the Martin City area because our district had received no upgrades since being annexed into Kansas City, Missouri in 1963. The MCBCA has a Board of Directors, made up of Martin City business owners and/or residents who work support the district.
In January 2005, MCBCA gained a new partner to assist in the quest for a better Martin City when the Martin City Community Improvement District was created. A Community Improvement District is created by property owners in a defined area who voluntarily tax themselves in order to fund improvements within the district’s boundaries.
Together, the MCCID and MCBCA work tirelessly to create a thriving, viable, commercial community in our southwest corner of the City of KCMO. With the added clout of the MCCID, MCBCA has been able to focus on bettering the area through public events and collaborations with neighborhood, civic and educational partners.
This year, MCBCA has elected NEW officers for their Board of Directors and we are excited to welcome the new leadership team:
President: Nilson Goes, Infinite Energy Construction
Vice President: Stacy Barnhart, Fishtech Group
Secretary: Bridgette Elleman, Rob Sight Ford
Treasurer: Angie Boehner, LaserEquipment
MCBCA is the coordinator and host for the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony, which is just around the corner on November 16th! This year’s celebration starts at 6:00 PM, and you’ll be able to shop, dine, and stroll down our NEW sidewalks before the holiday lights are flipped on. The evening will also feature holiday music, tasty treats from the Coffee Cake KC food truck, and the entertaining “Ugly Sweater Group Run” hosted by KC Running Company.
If you want to volunteer to help the MCBCA with events, or are interested in joining the MCBCA Board of Directors,
please contact Debbie Van Noy at (816) 941-9499 to get involved!
