The Martin City Business and Community Association (MCBCA) in partnership with the Martin City CID (MCCID) invites you to join us for our annual holiday lighting in Martin City! The central location for all things “Holiday Lighting” is at Fezziwigs in the heart of Martin City. We typically have a DJ playing festive holiday music on the porch, and Santa is available all evening to take photos with the little ones (and many of the grown-ups too!).
Many of our generous Martin City businesses donate gifts to give away at the holiday lighting. BUT, in order to have your name placed in Santa’s hat for a chance to receive a gift, you must first GIVE a donation to Giving the Basics, a community partner who teams up with 65+ non-profit organizations and 14+ local school districts to distribute basic hygiene and personal care items to Kansas City families. A Giving the Basics barrel sits outside the Bailey Brother’s Bank Building to collect donations so make sure to bring them with you!
Giving the Basics collects human dignity products not covered by government assistance. Items such as deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, toilet paper, kleenex, baby wipes, diapers, incontinence pads, feminine hygiene products, soap, trash bags, dishwashing liquid, laundry soap, Ziploc bags, and cleaning solutions are requested. CLICK HERE to view the full list of items needed.
Every donation is worth one ticket, which is entered into a raffle to win a gift from Santa’s bag! DJ Bobby Eddy will be announcing gift winners every 15 minutes after the holiday lights go on (around 7 pm). The more you donate, the more tickets you receive!
Gifts for Giving the Basics donations from 20+ Martin City Businesses!
Jess and Jim’s Steakhouse
Martin City Brewing Company
Martin City Telegraph
Rooms That Bloom
South KC Dental Center
Gift winners must be present in the district to win, and gifts must be claimed by 7:45 pm or another ticket holder will be chosen.
Many Martin City businesses have specials throughout the evening, and Coffee Cake KC is on site serving their famous “Truffle Shuffle” drinks (Truffle hot chocolate + espresso), caramel dark chocolate lattes, cinnamon swirl coffeecakes, and more!
KC Running Company also hosts a free 3-4 mile group run at 6:00 pm. Wear your favorite ugly sweater for a chance to win great prizes in their ugly sweater contest just before the race starts at 6:15 pm. Raffle prizes will be awarded after the run, and you can participate in the ugly sweater contest even if you don’t want to enter the run!
A special thank you to the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF) program for supporting our efforts to build community in Martin City! The Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF) program provides support to non-profit organizations like the MCBCA to help promote Kansas City’s distinct and diverse neighborhoods through cultural, social, ethnic, historic, educational and recreational activities.
If you want to volunteer to help the MCBCA with the holiday lighting, or are interested in joining the MCBCA Board of Directors, please contact the Executive Director of the Martin City CID at (816) 308-1023 or firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved!
