Featuring Martin City’s famous pan-fried chicken!
Raymond Charles VanNoy, Jr. (R.C. for short) opened R.C.’s Restaurant in 1973 while working part-time for his cousin, who owned Jess and Jim’s Steakhouse in Martin City.
When R.C. hired a well-known pan-fried chicken specialist, redheaded Betty Lucas, she taught R.C.’s three sons, Chuck, David, and Mike, the secrets to making a homemade family-style fried chicken dinner.
The restaurant soon became a family operation with R.C. overseeing management, his wife doing the books, his daughter waiting tables, and his three sons in the kitchen cooking. The fried chicken meals were so good, people waiting in line for a table would often sit with strangers so they could eat faster!
R.C. eventually became the owner of Jess & Jim’s Steakhouse, leaving R.C.’s Restaurant to be run by his three sons. The boys grew the business to the point they had to move to a larger building on 135th Street, their current location, which officially opened on New Year’s Eve, 1982.
The restaurant has two stories – RC’s Restaurant is downstairs and R.C.’s Back Door Bar and Grill upstairs. The Back Door is open nightly and features local bands and drink specials. Private dining can accommodate 80 people.
