Is Phase 1 of 135th Street Road Construction ever going to be finished? YES!
Phase 1 of 135th Street Road Construction (Holmes to Oak Street) is scheduled to be done by Fall of this year.  The public improvements within Phase 1 include the install of a new 66” stormwater line, the replacement of the 12” water main line, new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, new street lights, new on-street parking spaces, new landscaping, upgraded traffic signal at Holmes and 135th Street and a new road surface.

Why is the project being done in Phases?
After a number of year of unsuccessfully securing the funds to improve the entire stretch of 135th Street  (Holmes to Hwy 150), the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Jackson County, and the CID  decided to break up the 135th Street project into phases to improve the possibility of funding.  In late 2012, the parties secured the necessary funds to proceed with the construct of Phase 1 (Holmes to Oak).

What is being done to secure funds for Phase 2 and 3?
All municipalities involved have been working annually to submit applications to Federal, State, and Local public works programs in an effort to secure funding for Phase 2 and 3.  At this time, partial funding for Phase 2 has been secured but not enough to proceed with construction. The CID is submitting an application to the City of Kansas City PIAC program to request additional funds for Phase 2 and 3.

The CID needs help from the Business and Neighborhood Community!
This year, the CID decided to use Facebook to reach out to the neighborhood and business community to request letters of support to accompany the annual PIAC application.  The PIAC Committee likes to hear if the business and neighborhood community feel the completion of 135th Street should be a priority project for the City.  Please e-mail your letters of support for the completion of improvements on 135th Street to the CID Manager at manager@martincity.org.

*Please submit your letters by August 15th.

We appreciate your support and patience!
