TapanAm Associates, Inc. (TAI) is a US based, Multi-disciplined Consulting Engineering Firm who has been in business for over 32-years. Since 2001, the firm has been located at 201 W. 135th St. in Martin City and on July 13th, they moved down the street (staying in the CID district) to 13340 Holmes Road. We are ecstatic they are staying in Martin City!

CEO Tapan Banerjee, a structural engineer born in India and trained in England, founded TapanAm as a structural firm in 1983. It has since set itself apart from other small area engineering firms by incorporating all the major disciplines — structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing — under one roof.

TAI provides full service Engineering/Design services and specializes in the areas of Infrastructure, Facility design, Bridge Engineering, Power and Energy Services. Multi-discipline services include STRUCTURAL (Buildings/Bridges), CIVIL (Transportation, Roads and Interchanges), MEP (Mechanical/HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing), and POWER & ENERGY (Including Electrical Bulk & Material handling system design).

In Martin City, most individuals would identify TapanAm as the prime civil/infrastructure engineering firm working on the 135th Street Public Improvement Project designs. TapanAm is a prolific designer of local road, drainage and sewer projects.

Beyond the 135th Street project, the firm’s list of civil/infrastructure projects include Kemper Arena Expansion, Relocation of Sanitary Sewer Force Main, Kansas City, MO; Central Industrial District, Storm Water Masterplan, Kansas City, MO; Waterway Requirement under Bridge in Howell County, MO; Water way Requirement under Bridge in Jackson County, Kansas City, MO; and Combined Sewer Overflow Project, Kansas City Water Services Department, Kansas City, MO.

TapanAm’s civil division also branched out into sports facilities. They completed site work for a new UMKC soccer stadium and the new Belton High School football stadium — projects that also involved its structural engineers.

The minority ownership helps TapanAm Associates meet government diversity goals. TapanAm has extensive government design experience, which includes everything from seismic retrofitting of historic buildings at Fort Riley to the $42 million Health Science Building at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Additionally, TapanAm’s government projects include, but are not limited to: Kansas City, Kansas Federal Court House, National Archive Facility, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Marine Corp Facility, Armories & Army Reserve Centers; Force Protection – HOMELAND SECURITY, Barracks Building Renovations; Historical Building Renovations, Child Development Centers, Vehicle Maintenance Facilities, Ft. Riley, KS. Unit Operations Facility (Design Build), and various Federal Bureau of Prison facilities.

While TapanAm is a small firm, the high concentration of hands-on senior employees means important assignments are kept in capable hands. For the UMKC Health Science Building, for which TapanAm served as the prime structural consultant, TapanAm staff reviewed all 200 shop drawings themselves. At larger firms, entry-level engineers often review shop drawings and the drawings are only used as a last line of defense against construction document errors.

TapanAm is a bona fide Small and Minority owned business, houses multiple LEED certified professionals, and is registered in multiple states. For more information, visit TapanAm’s website.
