What Is The MCBCA?
The Martin City Business and Community Association was created in 1998 to raise awareness of the Martin City area and encourage commercial growth. The lack of infrastructure along 135th Street, which leaders felt was a distinct drawback to business development, was the primary driving force behind the creation of MCBCA.
Martin City had been annexed into the city of Kansas City, MO in 1963, and yet, years later, the primary arterial had never received any upgrades, leaving many local area businesses frustrated.
In January 2005, the Martin City Community Improvement District (MCCID) was created, giving the MCBCA a new partner to assist in the quest for a better Martin City. Together, they work to create a thriving, viable, commercial community in the southwest corner of KC, MO.
With the MCCID now managing the formal business of the Martin City political subdivision, MCBCA has been able to focus on our mission of collaborating with neighborhood, civic, non-profit, and educational leaders to create events, partnerships, and resources that will benefit as many businesses in Martin City as possible throughout the year.
The Board of Directors has chosen Martin City’s own, Cornerstones of Care, Ozanam Campus, as its main beneficiary for events and charitable fundraising. As business owners and leaders within the community, we believe in Cornerstones of Care’s mission to build health and empower the youth within the Foster care program to employable skills.
For this reason, the MCBCA board is working directly with the Ozanam campus to target donations to this worthy cause. By supporting one of the many MCBCA events in Martin City, you are directly supporting Cornerstones of Care’s work. Click this link to learn more about their program>> BUILD TRYBE
MCBCA coordinates Martin City’s annual Whiskey Run 5K and annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony.
We are also working on new and exciting events to help draw awareness and engagement to the diverse group of businesses throughout the area we know as Martin City!
Please contact the MCBCA if you have questions or would like to get involved.
