Construction has commenced in Phase 2 of the 135th Street Public Improvements (Oak Street to Wornall Road). The construction schedule is subject to change depending on weather, unforeseen construction matters, or schedules accommodating business operations. The typical construction schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday –Thursday, unless noted otherwise (i.e. water main construction on Wornall). The Contractors will use Fridays as make-up days.
Water Main Construction
The City’s contractors are currently working on the north side of 135th Street to install a new 12” water main. The week of November 16th, the Contractors will begin work along Wornall next to the Post Office. From November 16th through the end of November 27th, night street closure at the intersection of Wornall and 135th Street will be required so the Contractors can work on the water main connectors. The anticipated completion date for the installation of the new water main is the week of November 27th.
If the water main installation is completed on schedule, the City will be conducting tests on the new water main the week of November 27th through December 11th. The City Water Services Department will be contacting each business or property owner to schedule appropriate times for the transfer of water service from the old line to the new line. The Water Service Department will do its best to minimize business interruption.
Temporary Lighting
Starting the week of November 9th , street lights along the north side of 135th Street will be removed as well as the street lights at the intersection of Oak and Wornall. The City will put in temporary lights at the intersection of Oak and Wornall.
Week of Thanksgiving
The Contractor will have limited construction during the week of November 26th.
Speed Limit
Please advise all of your employees of the speed limit along 135th Street.
It has been lowered in the construction to 25 mph. The City asks everyone to please observe the lower speed limit for the safety of the construction workers and the Martin City community at large.
