It took years to complete all three phases of 135th Street construction, and now we’re focusing on supporting the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s Holmes Road overhaul. Improvements will focus on the section of Holmes Road from Blue Ridge Boulevard to 135th Street in the Martin City Community Improvement District.
Holmes Road Improvement plan highlights as of June 2025:
- Construction expected to begin in 2027 after 2026 World Cup events conclude to limit disruptions to local business accommodating an influx of soccer fans
- Project will stretch from Blue Ridge Boulevard to 135th Street
- Will include enough room for turning lanes, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, much needed drainage improvements, and potentially a quiet zone to limit train horns
- The City of Kansas City, Missouri aims to keep one lane open during construction to keep Holmes Road businesses accessible
Project Funding:
- Funding will come from KCMO’s general obligation bond fund
- Funding for design work came from KCMO Sixth District PIAC funds
Construction Timeline:
- Design work and right-of-way acquisitions are currently underway
- We hope to have the entire Holmes Road project completed by 2027. We are doing our best to keep the community informed of the process and are working diligently with KCMO engineers and planners.
