On April 24, 2016, the 5th Annual Martin City .1K Challenge kicked off in the new Martin Event Space, which provided plenty of room for participants to warm up for the big race. The .1K challenge benefits the Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for all blood cancers.
The weather was perfect for the 328′ run and there was a fantastic turnout of entertaining “runners” with a good percentage of them in costume! The beer was also flowing thanks to the Martin City Brewing Company, and delicious barbecue was provided by the Martin event space. Plenty of donuts were on hand as well for people to sugar up before, during and after the race!
There was even a “Margarita Bike” where attendees could peddle to blend their own margaritas! Raffle tickets for various prize baskets were given away, which boasted restaurant gift cards, Royals swag, handy tools and more. One of the race participant’s purple and yellow sneaker pumps were even live auctioned for $160 right off of his feet!
A great time was had by all, and knowing everyone was out supporting a great cause makes us proud of our what our community can contribute. We’re already looking forward to next year’s race!
