Seven key benefits of moving your business into the District.

As a business owner, you already know what it takes to operate and manage your own path to success. The surrounding business community can either offer an advantage or hold you back. The Martin City Community Improvement District (MCCID) is dedicated to giving you a strategic boost to help strengthen and amplify your potential. Here’s a snapshot of how the MCCID helps, from the perspective of businesses we serve:

#1 Doing business in a safer, more secure environment.

Imagine starting your day with an email in your inbox noting security issues that popped up around your property overnight. Maybe you left a gated entrance open, or someone was seen poking around your property after hours. The MCCID pays for private security patrols within District borders every night between 6pm and 8am. Security officers in marked patrol vehicles with mounted cameras scan our neighborhood and react on foot when they need to get a closer look.

Orion Security is Martin City’s longtime partner.

The officers are proactive, alerting businesses to concerns ranging from suspicious activity to broken fencing and failed lighting. All you have to do is complete a basic contact form. Ask around and business owners in Martin City will tell you they appreciate the service and feel more confident about the safety and security of their businesses as a result.

#2 Working in a cleaner, more appealing neighborhood with easy access.

While private property is off-limits to the MCCID, we do make a difference in public areas near your business. On your way to work you might notice street sweeping vehicles making the rounds on main roads in Martin City. The MCCID pays for monthly service, ensuring debris doesn’t build up and diminish clear access to your business. Cleaner streets not only attract more customers, they also create a welcoming atmosphere that sets the stage for business growth.

Sweeping launched the business and continues 35 later for select municipalities and commercial customers.

Monthly street sweeping services are provided by Martin City business The American Companies.

Beautification is another key area of the MCCID budget. Your customers may notice the colorful, fresh landscaping along 135th Street and encourage their friends and family to visit. Martin City’s street banners and hanging baskets during the spring and summer have become hallmarks of our neighborhood’s aesthetic character.

Martin City company Rosehill Gardens handles landscaping services.

Branded bike racks the MCCID designed and installed throughout the neighborhood enhance convenience and a vibrant, welcoming community feeling for your customers. New signage highlighting multiple entrances to Martin City is in the works and coming soon.

Martin City is accessible by bike and bus with convenient street parking too.

#3 Faster development of infrastructure improvements that matter.

The MCCID literally helps pave a way for customers to your door. Our work to speed up and augment the overhaul of 135th Street is our crowning achievement so far. If we had not formed the MCCID to facilitate construction processes through the City of Kansas City, Missouri, we might still be trying to do business along broken pavement without curbs or sidewalks. Our infrastructure focus has now shifted to Holmes Road where a similar transformation, including adjacent bicycle trails, is expected by 2026.

#4 Joining a modern community brand designed to support business.

In today’s digital age, a strong online presence is non-negotiable. We seize the opportunity to continuously spotlight and elevate businesses in Martin City. The MCCID maintains a dynamic community website at MartinCity.org.

When you check it out, you see your business listed in the Business Directory, raising your profile on the web, and giving customers and partners an easy, important portal for engaging your business. You also notice your business is in the good company of other neighborhood businesses, and positioned alongside content highlighting community events, over a century of history, and the ongoing narrative of revitalization and ambitious progress.

As an extension of MartinCity.org, MCCID-funded social media accounts cover the digital landscape, from Facebook and Instagram to X, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Rich with photography, informative graphics, and video clips, social media actively engages the growing Martin City community, reaching thousands of neighborhood fans eager to discover new businesses, special offers, and upcoming events.

The appeal of our community’s legendary restaurants, live entertainment, and recreational opportunities create a tide that lifts all boats, continuously attracting visitors ready to explore your business and the neighborhood it calls home.

#5 Connecting to memorable experiences that attract visitors and drive traffic.

Martin City is known for its community spirit. Our CID organizes engaging events throughout the year, from parades and holiday gatherings to pop up farmers markets, fun themed runs, and customer appreciation parties. They draw crowds, strengthen awareness, and drive traffic to your doorstep. These events aren’t just about entertainment; they’re opportunities to connect with potential customers and build lasting relationships.

#6 Working with an experienced District Manager ready to help you succeed.

Need help finding a particular service or critical resource to help your business? Looking for perspective on how to handle a challenge or opportunity? Searching for the right partner to pull off an event? The MCCID employs a District Manager who’s just a phone call away.

Vickie Wolverton draws on many years of experience in Martin City, plus decades of work with the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, to help neighborhood businesses navigate growth. Ask anyone, Vickie is a valuable treasure for business owners serious about connecting to the community and pursuing their potential.

#7 The peace of mind that only comes with due diligence.

While your business enjoys all of these benefits, the MCCID Board of Directors also quietly tackles the nitty-gritty responsibilities that come with making CID advantages possible. Legal compliance, professional accounting and audit services, and other administrative tasks are taken very seriously. Our due diligence and transparency have helped us earn a reputation as a model CID organization.

The MCCID Board consists of representatives of business and property owners within the District — not investors from outside of the area.

Overall, a move to Martin City is a vote for your future. Business success doesn’t happen on an island. In our neighborhood, it happens in a forward-thinking community of engaged business owners with a collective focus on potential. Unlike so many other neighborhoods, we’re designed for fueling the growth we all want individually by employing the power we have together through the Martin City Community Improvement District.
