Third Thursday Continues To Grow In Martin City!

Spread The Word!

A big THANK YOU goes out to everyone who attended our August Third Thursday event “The Martin Talks” with KSquared’s Katie Van Luchene and Kimberly Winter Stern! The Martin City Business and Community Association has been working with The Martin Event Space each month to plan this fun event, and we are so happy to see it growing like it has!

Guests enjoyed an array of complimentary decadent appetizers and cocktails from Martin City Brewing Company as they mingled before the ladies took the stage. The main event rule was that whenever the audience heard a train come through Martin City, everyone had to drink! Continuing the tradition, when the train blew its horn as it came through Martin City, everyone surely raised their glass and took a drink of their delicious “Malibu Barbie” (as Katie named it) cocktail!

Guest speaker, Janis Kliethermes, from Etiquette Kansas City, took the stage to talk about manners and common etiquette we sometimes forget. Janis answered questions from the audience about their own situations and how to properly interact with people. “Put the cell phone away!” was the main point Janis stressed throughout her time on stage.

Janis gave away a free certificate for an etiquette class as one of many door prizes given away at the event. A few other door prizes included a gift card for Jack Stack BBQ, and a shrub rose pot donated by Suburban Lawn & Gardens.

Amani Skalacki gave a free style consultation in which she featured two “looks” on a gorgeous model using clothes from the sale rack at Dillard’s. The first outfit was a modern look with a black tank and wide legged A-Line pants. The second outfit was a soft pink dress. Paired with some jewelry from Sidelines Custom Floral, the looks were flawless and elegant. Amani gave advice on how to dress to fit your body type and urged women to wear what makes them feel good over style. Amani donated a free personal style consultation as a door prize.

The final speaker of the night was 6th District Kansas City, Missouri City Councilman, Kevin McManus. Kevin was born and raised in the 6th District so he takes great pride in seeing his community invest in itself. Kevin talked about how infrastructure drives economic growth and he says South Kansas City is one of the largest driving forces for development in the Kansas City area. As another great door prize, Kevin offered a lucky winner lunch on his dime where you can ask him all the questions your heart desires about Kansas City’s 6th District!

After the Martin Talks came to a close, guests were invited to dine out and “shop local” in the Martin City district. *Remember… we have sidewalks now so it’s much easier to walk between businesses! Local business coupons were available on the new “Specials Board” located near the entrance at The Martin.

Don’t miss September’s Third Thursday “The Martin Talks” event on September 15th where we will have even MORE door prizes from all those who are donating to the Jeans and Shoe drive!

More detailed information about September’s Third Thursday event will be posted as information becomes available on our monthly 3rd Thursday event page.
