What’s in store for MC in 2016?
Happy New Year! It’s easy to get excited about 2016 because our district has so many projects to be excited about! According to a recent article in the Kansas City Star, people who haven’t been down to our neck of the woods in South Kansas City lately might not be aware of the transformation underway!
One thing we know for sure… Martin City is worth investing in! Beyond the long-time restaurants, “the whole face of Martin City is changing,” says Karyn Brooke, chair of the Martin City Business and Community Association.
Here’s what’s in store for 2016:
Phase II Construction Begins
Phase 2 improvements include the installation of a new stormwater drainage system, replacement of the old 12” water main in this section, construction of curbs and sidewalks, installation of a traffic signal at Wornall Road and 135th Street, installation of new street lights, construction of on-street parking, and new street surfacing.
Subject to weather, starting January 4th Blue Nile will close Wornall Road between 133rdStreet and 135thStreet so they may complete work on a section of the new water main running north and south. Road closure signs will be posted at Blue Ridge and Wornall Road to provide ample notice of road closure. Trucks will not be permitted to cut through the Village Glenn neighborhood.
The City asks all businesses to plan accordingly for the street closure. The 135th Street and Wornall Road intersection closure is scheduled for the entire month of January. Traffic along 135th Street will not be impacted by the construction activities. Please visit our construction page for more information about all phases of construction.
