From start to finish, many of our success stories in 2015 were centered around the growth of our business community. Here are some of the ways we made headlines:

Martin City Welcomed SIX New Businesses In 2015

If you haven’t had a chance to stop by and welcome these new businesses to the neighborhood, there’s plenty of time in 2016 to do so because they aren’t going anywhere! Here’s who moved in:

Brickman Group, Ltd. – 13516 Oak Street

Long timers who changed locations but chose to remain in Martin City:

TapanAm Associates, Inc. (TAI), a 32-year-old US-based, multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm, had been located at 201 W. 135th Street since 2001 and renovated vacant space at 13340 Holmes Road in July to better accommodate their needs.

The Dental Center of South KC completely renovated and moved into the old McKinzie Construction/ Keegan’s BBQ building at 315 E. 135th Street in Martin City. Though the space is new to the dental practice, Dr. Gregory Stiver has been practicing dentistry for 28 years in Martin City. They outgrew their old facility at 13643 Holmes road and now have plenty of room to grow!

Businesses that changed ownership but chose to remain in Martin City

Smithfield Foods (purchased Farmland) A company-wide realignment, which took effect March 1, 2015, unified all of Smithfield’s independent operating companies, brands – including the Farmland Foods brand – marketing, and more than 48,000 employees around the world under one corporate umbrella. There are around 450 employees at the Martin City location, some of them have been there for as many as 16 years, and the facility’s Environmental Coordinator says they are happy to stay in Martin City.

Premier Mazda, located at the northeast corner of Wyandotte and Hwy MO-150, was purchased by Elm Creek Autogroup, LLC from Lucas, Texas. The Elm Creek Autogroup is keeping the “Premier” name on the Martin City dealership and the new ownership group promises to provide outstanding service and quality to every buyer that comes on the lot!

Martin City businesses expanding (or already expanded)

Jess and Jim’s Steakhouse – Built a new outdoor dining patio with a firepit

Martin City Animal Hospital – Built a new exam room as an addition to their current facility

Martin City Brewing Company – Opened new event space at the corner of 135th Street and Holmes Road
